Dredging

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am reaching out to you at the request of Supervisor John Cook to provide a first follow-up from our meeting last week with the Fairfax County Stormwater Planning Division on the proposed summer dredging and shoreline protection/bank restoration project for Woodglen Lake. I assist Supervisor Cook with stormwater issues. You are included on this email if you attended the Community Information Meeting; have previously contacted this office about Woodglen Lake or represent a Homeowner or Civic Association impacted by this work. The goal is to remove approximately 32,500 cubic yards of sediment from the lake.

I am attaching a link to the power point presentation that was provided at the meeting and hope that you will circulate it to members of the community who may not have been in attendance.  Any neighbor who would like to be added to this list can just shoot me an email.  As Supervisor Cook noted, we promise you a further meeting when plans are more developed.  You may be assured that your expressed concerns at the meeting will be considered as Stormwater Planning works towards a final design along with the County’s contractor.

As mentioned in the meeting, the primary contact for the technical aspects of this dredging project is Dipmani Kumar, and I am both copying him on this email and providing his phone number for your ready reference: (703) 324-4612.  We expect Mr. Kumar back in the office on March 11.  In the meantime, Matt Meyers, who made the presentation last week, will be available to answer questions at 703-324-5500.  Here in the Braddock District Office, we also hope you will copy us or contact us directly on issues of concern.

As also referenced during the meeting, the Park Authority will be simultaneously working with Stormwater Planning on a design to stabilize and restore the banks of the lake which will include planting trees and shrubs to re-establish the Resource Protection Area in accordance with the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act, and to abate existing encroachments into parkland.  Should you have any specific questions on this aspect of the project, you can reach out to Ed Richardson in the Area 4 FCPA office at 703-425-2123
